She was born in the Charan community and is believed to be the daughter of Mamadiya Gadhvi, a devout man who was childless until he received a boon from Lord Shiva.

Khodiyar Maa and her six sisters and one brother were divine children who came to earth to help and protect the pious.

She is known for miraculous interventions to protect the weak and punish injustice.

One of her well-known acts was saving the Chudasama ruler of Junagadh, who later became her devotee.
